A band of heavy lake effect snow affected areas from South Haven to Kalamazoo to Battle Creek on Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Snowfall rates at times under this band were 1 to 2 inches per hour and the maximum storm total reported to the National Weather Service was 12 inches at Lawton in Van Buren county.  See our latest public information statement and graphical snow map for a summary of snowfall totals from this latest lake effect event.

There’s good news for winter weather enthusiasts. Cold air is here to stay for the week, with highs in the low to mid 20s and lows in the single digits and teens expected. More significant lake effect snows will be possible, particularly west and south of Grand Rapids. An even colder air mass is expected to arrive next weekend, with lake effect snows persisting.
